The American Lung Association of Hawaii's (ALAH) programs address the ALAH's commitment to and support for the American Lung Association (ALA) nationwide plan. Goals for the nationwide American Lung Association include:
 
-Tobacco-related lung disease will be eliminated in future generations.
-Asthma will no longer be a burden to patients and their families, nor will it cause severe illness or death.
-The air we breathe will not cause or worsen lung disease.
-ALA will monitor lung health stautus and be the champion for those affeted by lung disease.
-The public will identify the ALA as the premiere organization ebgaged in lung health research, education and advocacy.
-ALA will be innovative, aggressive and successful in generating revenue to further its mission.
-The nationwide ALA will be committed to its goals, aligned in its actions, and accountable for its performance.
 
ALAH program areas include:


Asthma 
Mission
 
 
Educate and empower all of Hawaii's asthmatic children
ages 8-11 and their parents to manage their asthma on a
daily basis.
Open Airways for Schools
Educate and empower all of Hawaii's asthmatic
children ages 8-11 and their parents to manage their
asthma on a daily basis.
Asthma 101
Provide basic information about asthma and its management
for school personnel in schools and day-care centers and to
organizations working with children in recreational activities.

Tobacco Mission
 
Adult Smoking Cessation           
 
Eliminate or significantly reduce smoking among Hawaii's adults.
Utilize the 'New Year's Resolution' to heighten awareness of the ALAH's cessation programs in Hawaii.

Teen Smoking Cessation
Eliminate or significantly decrease smoking among Hawaii youth who are regular smokers to prevent debilitating or chronic disease and premature death in adulthood.
 
Pevention 
Eliminate smoking among Hawaii's youth.
Reduce initiation of tobacco use among children and adolescents.

Air Quality Mission
                                           
Promulgate the conclusions, information and analyses contained in the annual ALA State of the Air Reports, maintain the "A" rating for ozone and improve the "D" rating for particulate matter (attributable to New Year's Eve fireworks) in Hawaii.
