American Lung Association in Hawaii : Advocacy

The Public Policy Advocacy program of the American Lung Association in Hawaii (ALAH) is accredited by the national American Lung Association for Excellence in Advocacy.
The American Lung Association in Hawaii supports legislative lung health issues at the local, state, and national levels. Volunteers provide personal grassroots contacts with county and, state officials and Hawaii's Congressional Delegation in support of public policy goals.
 
 
 

Advocacy Efforts

The three main focus areas in advocacy are:

  • Air Quality
  • Asthma
  • Tobacco Control

2009 Hawaii Legislative Update
The 2009 Hawai'i Legislative Session has been one of the most active and frustrating ones in many years.  ALAH has worked very hard on tobacco and fireworks related issues.  For a brief summary of measures that passed, click here

ALA Report Card
The “Tobacco Report Card” provides up-to-date information on tobacco control progress in Hawaii compared to the other states in the nation to the media and general public. The goal of the report card is to raise public consciousness of tobacco control as a significant contribution to lung health.
 

 



State of the Air Report (SOTA)
 
The State of the Air Report is an annual report that provides up-to-date information on state by state air quality reports. The goal of the report is to raise public consciousness of air quality in Hawaii and around the Nation.
